Mission
The Harveysburg Historical Society's purpose is to preserve, through restoration, the Elizabeth Harvey Free Black School (the First Free Black School Building in Ohio and the Northwest Territory); to establish a history of Harveysburg, Massie Township & surrounding areas; to preserve the cultural background, industry, and religion; and to establish a museum for their preservation.

Overview
The Harveysburg Community Historical Society maintains and operates the First Free Black School which was founded by Elizabeth and Jesse Harvey in 1831. (The physical building that is located at the corner of North and Lorraine Streets was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977). The Harveys were devout Quakers and dedicated to the abolition of slavery. Our organization reflects both the historical heritage of Quaker influences in the Southwest Ohio region and the history of the Harveysburg community. We also participate in many of the activities throughout Warren County Ohio including being members in the Heritage Advisory Council-an organization of historical societies with shared histories and missions to advocate for our local histories.
